Presentation by the Director, North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board

The Director of Place (Darlington), North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board gave a presentation updating the Board on the Joint Forward Plan (JFP) and in doing so reminded Members of the structures within the Integrated Care System.

The presentation outlined the national requirements for the first five-year JFP which was being developed by Integrated Care Boards and partner NHS Foundation Trusts with system partners; reference was made to the JFP and how this fit with other strategies at a national, system and place level; the four goals of the Integrated Care Strategy, published in December 2022, were outlined; and Members noted the three principles of the JFP.

Details were provided of the work undertaken locally to develop the Tees Valley places plan; the priorities and pillars were outlined and included hospital discharge and avoidance, sustainability, ageing well, mental health, prevention and inequalities and Healthy children – focus on the best start in life; and Members were informed of the role of the Health and Wellbeing Board in the development of the JFP. Members noted the next steps and associated deadlines.

Members sought assurance that the voice of the population of Darlington and the voluntary and Community sector were being captured; and discussion ensued regarding confusion around the work of the ICB and the need for clearer communication was highlighted.
